Quick Summer Cycling Tips
If you have ever had a chance to read my previous blogs, it should not take you long to discover that many employees of The Gooch Firm, P.C. are avid cyclists. Too, we support many professional cyclists and bicycle teams, such as the Porcupine Cycling Team. Given this, I have always pushed for safety and awareness when it comes to cycling. I was very happy to see that reporters at Fox News Utah are doing the same. Below is a brief summary of issues highlighted by Fox News Utah during yesterday's broadcast:
With more and more cyclists on the road, officials are reminding both drivers and cyclists to be aware of the new riders on the road. The most important tip is to always wear a helmet. It can be the difference between life and death in case of an accident. A helmet does you no good if it doesn't fit properly, make sure that it has been adjusted for your head. Both cyclists and drivers need to remember that they share the lanes on many streets in Salt Lake City, and need to respect drivers of both types of transportation.
Above all I believe that we need to learn how to respect each other, respect each other's choice of transportation and the rules and obligations towards each other. Another tip that may be ignored or just simply unknown is registering your bicycle. Registering your bike with local law enforcement can help if it is stolen or if you're involved in an accident. For all cyclists living in Salt Lake City, bicycles must be registered. In fact, you can have your bike impounded, much like a vehicle, for not having that registration. Many times police cannot research or try to find your bike or even list it as stolen without that information. Registration can be done for a two dollar fee at any fire department or at police headquarters during business hours.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a cycling related injury please contact The Gooch Firm, P.C. today.
