News Reports, Car Accidents, Death, and Truck Accidents. Is There Any good News?
As I watch the news and read the paper I notice one domineering theme in the news, most of it is violent and depressing. Just from what I heard over the weekend there were several automotive accidents that resulted lost lives. Here are some examples of what I am referring to.
A Colorado man was killed Sunday in a crash near the Utah-Colorado border. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a 26-year-old woman and her 36-year-old brother were driving east on Interstate 70 about two miles west of the state line. Just before 2 p.m., one of the tires on their 2008 Ford F-250 blew out, causing the woman to lose control. The truck rolled into the median. The male passenger, Dustin Donald Thompson of Windsor, Colo., was ejected from the truck and died at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt. The driver, who is from Glenwood Springs, Colo., was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction with serious head and neck injuries.
There has also been a serious rise in the number of accidents occurring up our canyons:
A 22-year-old Turkish man was killed when he crashed head on into a semi truck on U.S. 6 in Utah County. Troopers say Abdulkadir Tacbasi and a female passenger were headed east near Spanish Fork Canyon around 5 a.m. when he suddenly crossed the center line and smashed into the semi. Tacbasi died at the scene, while the 22-year-old woman was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo with minor injuries.
The driver of the semi was not hurt. Troopers say Tacbasi and the woman were heading to Moab from Salt Lake City. Tacbasi is from Turkey, and troopers had to notify family members through the Turkish consulate. Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seat belts. Troopers have ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors.
Utah is filled with far too many drivers that do not take the responsibility of driving seriously. Until we reach a point where we are more concerned with safety then we are with how fast we can reach our destination, we are going to keep hearing sobering reports such as these. I personally think we need to take some type of action so that news reports don't always have to be about tragedy, lost lives and injuries.
