Injuries Sustained in Automobile Accident Could Have Long Term Effects - Even if the Accident is a Minor One
The goal of this blog, and many others I have written, is to inform readers and promote safe living. During my many years of practice, I have witnessed events that have changed lives forever. Perhaps one of the most significant incidents is automobile accidents. The serious nature of injuries sustained in a car crash, especially minor automobile accidents, are often overlooked or ignored.
Even minor automobile accidents can have major ramifications on all parties involved. When one automobile is struck by another, thousands of pounds of force are exerted on the bodies of those in the car. This can result in injuries to the ligaments, muscles, joints, and disks of the neck and spine. Victims can sometimes ignore minor pains and discomforts of the accident, "simply by thinking if I can walk I will be alright." The symptoms that you are experiencing could be indicators of far greater problems such as whiplash or a concussion. Below are examples of symptoms that should be immediately reported to someone on a medical staff:
- Unconsciousness for any amount of time
- Difficulty concentrating, remembering things, processing information or are easily distracted
- Problems speaking, understanding words, reading or writing
- Difficulty moving any part of your body or sensing outside stimuli such as temperature
- Change in vision, hearing, smell or taste
- Pain
- Seizures
- Loss of control over your bladder or bowel or changes in your ability to sleep or eat
