Establishing and Building a Case
At The Gooch Firm, P.C. our motto is "Don't Just Settle." What that means is we fight hard to make certain that our clients get a fair and just result of their case. We take cases as far as they need to go. As advocates, we are prepared to handle complex mediations, arbitrations, and if necessary, take cases all the way to trial. The following are the detailed steps of establishing a case, working on that case, and finally closing or settling that case.
Step 1 Talking with a Potential Client: Before anyone has the opportunity to work with an attorney or law firm contact must be initiated by a potential client. During this time the standard process is to conduct a telephonic conference. If however a potential client feels written communication best suits their needs email notification or a case form is happily accepted. The initial communication is used to exchange contact information and establish the main points of a prospective case. Attorneys and staff members will then evaluate the legitimacy of a claim, and decide if a solid case can be constructed. A responsible professional has a duty to look at every potential case honestly and objectively. From this point a legal representative may ask to schedule a face to face meeting.
Step 2 Working as a Team to Build Your Case: Clients and attorneys are most effective when they work as a team. Keeping an open line of communication is key to the success of a case. For more information on what it means to have solid teamwork with an attorney please read my supplement article "Attorney / Client Teamwork to Win Your Case." Our clients are actively involved in helping to build their case.
During this time all angles and aspects of a case are evaluated. The strengths and potential weaknesses are analyzed with a fine tooth comb. Gathering evidence and witnesses is also a heavily focused goal. Expert witnesses may be utilized, especially if a case is scientific or medical in nature.
Step 3 Closing or Settling a Case: At The Gooch Firm, P.C. our clients have the final say as to whether or not a case will be settled. Our goal is to acquire the largest settlement and best results for our clients. It is the job of an attorney to properly inform and explain to their clients why and how a specific dollar amount has been reached for their case, and the pros and cons of accepting that settlement. This is where experience lawyers have an opportunity to shine. A courtroom can be an overwhelming experience. At The Gooch Firm, P.C. our veteran attorneys knows how to conduct themselves and how to try cases.
